Living with a Japanese family...
Image

Dear guests,

Our house is ideally located between Osaka and Kyoto.

2 train stations just 5 and 10 minutes walk, located between Osaka and Kyoto (20-30 minutes train ride to the city center).

Free travel with the JR Pass to Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kobe and the rest of Japan. Those who don't have a JR pass can use a private train (5 minutes from our house) to Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe for a cheaper price (US$2.5 to US$4). Public transport is so convenient that we have never owned a car here (none of us can drive either :)).

We are a bilingual family (English/Japanese) and love learning different languages, so we love meeting people from all over the world.

Our children are 10 and 16 years old. We are always happy to help our guests with recommendations, tips and other problems they may face in Japan.

My husband is a photographer/tour guide Kyoto and loves literature and languages. My son loves PC games :(. My daughter loves painting and colors. I love food, slow life, cozy time with family and nature.

Our house is modern, large (approx. 200 m²) & green (runs on solar energy) with a large living and dining room.

In the neighborhood there are many traditional style houses, narrow streets, a 1300 year old temple and a shrine. A quiet place to stay and enjoy local life, but Kyoto and Osaka are just minutes away.

I also hold cooking classes at home (making sushi and tempura), tea ceremonies, calligraphy in kimono as part of Airbnb experiences, which you can join for an additional fee (at a cheaper rate than non-homestay guests).

We do not offer dinner, but we do offer a light breakfast of toast and coffee.

That's what our guests say...

Akiko and her family are wonderful hosts and a true delight to visit. Their very comfortable house is located in a pleasant neighborhood with easy access to Kyoto and Osaka. We have stayed in many places around the world but this was a highlight for us in many ways. We learned a great deal about Japanese culture and enjoyed getting to know this family who are very hospitable and kind. Would highly recommend this home stay.

Akiko and her family are really nice and the room is clean and spacious. They were very accommodating and thoughtful, I can definitely recommend staying here and if I'm ever in Osaka/Kyoto again I'd stay here again!

Akiko and Matt are very friendly people. The room is clean and spacious. Nice environment. 2 trainstations in walking distance. Small village with some restaurants and shops, but also Osaka and Kyoto within 20 minutes reach. It was a very good holiday for us. Thank you.

This was our second stay with Akiko and her family and also a great time again.
As always its nice to have a host family that does speak English well and also provides you with some insight on the Japanese lifestyle.
Not to mention they are simply fun to chat or have a drink with.
We will definitly come again, if we visit that part of Japan again.
Great host.

We had a great stay with our family at Akiko and Matt's. The two hosts gave us a warm welcome and we were allowed to be part of their family for a few days.
Akiko was always responsive and helpful to us! The house is located in a quiet residential area with great train connections for trips towards Osaka or Kyoto. We can recommend this accommodation without exception and would book again anytime.
Akiko also offers courses in calligraphy, kimono wearing and tea ceremony. It was a great pleasure for us to participate.

Our homestay experience with Akiko and her family is a very good one. Our room and the whole house are clean, tidy and have a comfortable atmosphere. Akiko and her family are polite, accommodating and friendly. Thank you for making our vacation in Japan a very memorable one. Homestay with them is highly recommended.

This is the perfect homestay experience for those seeking a peaceful base to explore Kyoto and Osaka from. Akiko was really helpful with how to get to places and supplying visit suggestions when I arrived. The room was spacious and welcoming.
Thanks Akiko!

Sehr angenehme Familie, praktische Location, prompte Kommunikation

We had a great stay at Akiko and her family. The place is located perfectly between Kyoto and Osaka and there is both JR and local trains. The room is cosy and includes a AC, and we also enjoyed sleeping on a futon. Akiko is a very kind host that helped us with recommendations for our stay, she also hosts class but we did not have time to attend them. Would definitely come back :)

I really liked my stay at Akiko‘s place. The family was very friendly and hospitable. Akiko always helped me with the planning of the sightseeing when I needed any help. In the evening we also had good talks about cultural differences and similarities which was very interesting. Furthermore I quite liked the Japanese experience of calligraphy, kimono and tea ceremony. If you want to experience the Japanese culture more I recommend taking one of the experiences Akiko offers.

Was very good, time was going fast. hope next year i come again

Akiko, her husband, and children were very warm and welcoming when staying at this location as a guest. They have activities available in home that allow you to learn and experience local culture such as preparing Wagyu beef and Sushi. Be certain to message ahead of time for plan preparations with Akiko as she is quick to respond and accommodate through messaging. It was nice to experience a Japanese style home. This location is probably best suited for a small family to visit.

My wife and I stayed two nights. Most importantly, Akiko and Her Husband Matt, along with their two lovely children, are the best. They were friendly, exceptionally accommodating, and very informative regarding travel in the Kyoto area (and Osaka, as I heard from another guest) The breakfast was simple yet ample and very delicious, with several selections. They provided my wife and me with spot-on travel suggestions as well as explaining how and why and what trains to catch. Their Daughter even showed us adults how to operate an abacus. I highly endorse Aikios Homestay if you want comfortable accommodations, good travel tips, and a comfortable bed. Thanks Akiko!

Warm and gracious host, very comfortable accommodation and well appointed for easy travel to Osaka, Kyoto and surrounds. I would love to go stay with Akiko and her family again.

Ikiko and Matt were great hosts!
They made us feel at home right away and made sure we have all we need.
With their warm hospitality, they let us experience the life of a Japanese family.
We had great conversations about culture, tradition, religion in Japan and in Israel and we were very lucky to meet their lovely kids and talk to them.
We will definitely stay with them again and meanwhile we will stay in touch!
Thank you again!

Outstanding Stay with a warm Family.
Our five-night stay with the family was simply fantastic. The room was perfect - comfortable and cozy.
What truly made this stay exceptional was the warm hospitality of the family. They welcomed us and provided useful tips and advice for our trip, enhancing our experience in Japan.
We definitely would book this place again, if we would travel in this area.
Thanks to the family for an unforgettable experience!

Akiko and her family have been lovely during the week. The home is cosy and clean, and well located between Osaka and Kyoto. They also give a lot of good advice to make the most of the trip.
We'd definitely come back to visit Osaka and Kyoto once again.

We stayed with Akiko and Matt for 3 weeks.
It was the best decision we could have made. It was a great stay because it was more than just accommodation. We were allowed to be part of the family and felt very comfortable and well received. Akiko and Matt, who despite their busy day always found time for us when we had questions and also the evening sitting together in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere was always a highlight. Matt's knowledge was amazing and very interesting e.g. how did Tokyo get its name. Akiko's cooking skills were a sheer delight, I can only recommend her cooking class to everyone!!!
It was a pleasure for us to be guests with Akiko and Matt and a repetition is already planned.

Akiko & Matt welcomed my Friend and I with open arms. Their house was warm, comfortable and an amazing experience. Loved chatting to Akiko who always tried to help us find our way around. Highly recommend staying & also doing Akiko’s cooking classes, Sooo delicious. will definitely be back!
